Felton man killed in hit & run while walking his dog in Sandtown

A Felton man was killed while walking his dog near his home in Sandtown after a vehicle struck him and then kept on-going. According to the Delaware State Police Department, shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 35-year-old Robert L. Coberly, of Felton, was walking his dog on the westbound shoulder of Willow Grove Road, east of Sandtown Road. While Coberly was walking down the road, an unknown vehicle traveling westbound hit him and threw him into a tax ditch on the north-side of the roadway near his home. The vehicle then continued westbound without stopping. Coberly was pronounced dead at the scene by Kent County Paramedics. His dog was able to run back to the residence and was uninjured. Willow Grove Road between Sandtown Road and Mahon Corner Road was closed for four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
