A man who cut open a waste oil tank in Lincoln suffered burns to 80 percent of his body Tuesday afternoon, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
The 21-year-old worker was transported to Beebe Medical Center with first- and second-degree burns to 80 percent of his body, according to Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Harry R. Miller.
The explosion occurred just after 1 p.m. Tuesday at Delmarva Petroleum, in the 900 block of Clendaniel Pond Road, Miller said. The Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company assisted by Milton Volunteer Fire Company, along with Sussex County EMS responded to the scene.
Miller said the victim was treated and transferred to Crozer Burn Center in Chester, Pennsylvania. The condition of the victim was not made available by authorities.
