Students and faculty were evacuated from the Dunbar Hill School Monday after a gas leak was detected in the building, according to Fire Chief David Berardesca.
Firefighters were called to the scene at approximately 1:43 p.m., Berardesca said .
Levels of natural gas and carbon monoxide were detected in the building, according to Berardesca.
Faculty members smelled gas and ushered students outside, alleviating the possibility of danger from the leak, Berardesca said.
“They did an excellent job in taking care of the students,” said Berardesca. According to a message on the Facebook page for the Dunbar Hill Parent-Teacher Association, classes were to be conducted outside until the typical dismissal time. Berardesca said students were dismissed early.
