The historic home on Old Post Road that caught fire early Saturday morning was being rented by Mark R. Nemec, Fairfield University’s newly installed president, school officials confirmed Sunday.
“Fairfield University is grateful for the quick response of the Fairfield fire and police departments and first responders,” the university said in a statement. “The President’s family is safe and extends its thanks to the community for its support.”
During the fire, a 10-year-old jumped from the second-floor window to escape the early morning blaze at the historic Old Post Road home.
Around 1:30 a.m., the department received multiple calls about a fire at 480 Old Post Road, where a child was said to be trapped on the second floor.
