Three members of the governing Board of Fire Commissioners were re-elected Monday.
But the election was less a referendum on three commissioners and more about the new procedures introduced by district officials. Commissioners David Colligan, Johnathan Hamlin and Roger Rukowicz faced no challengers. All are members of the nine-member commission that oversees oversees the operations and personnel of the district.
One-third of the seats on the commission are up for grabs every year. Commission members are elected to three-year terms, District Executive Director Michael Dagostino said.
In the past, nomination could be made from the floor, followed immediately by two hours of voting. However, last year, district officials, led by Dagostino, proposed altering the process in an effort to enable residents to learn more about the individuals running for office.
