kitchen blaze forced a family from their half of a Karen Drive duplex on Tuesday afternoon, a fire official said. No one was hurt.
Firefighters responded to 52 Karen Drive at about 3:20 p.m. and found an active fire, Eighth Utilities District Manchester Fire Chief Don Moore said.
The fire started on the stove and extended to a microwave oven and the cabinets above, Moore said. Firefighters doused the blaze in about 15 minutes, but that half of the duplex was uninhabitable, he said.
A couple and their children had gotten out before firefighters arrived and later found alternative shelter, he said. The fire marshal is investigating, but Moore said the cause appears to be food left on the stove.
