The fire that killed a man in Enfield early Friday does not appear to have been intentionally set, police said Tuesday.
The investigation of the fire at 11 Alden Ave. is still underway, Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said. As of Tuesday morning, he said, “we have not uncovered any criminal element to this.” Enfield detectives and the state police have been helping fire investigators from the Thompsonville Fire Department with the probe. The state medical examiners’s office confirmed that Jose Cotto-Moya, 21, died Friday of smoke inhalation. His death is believed to have been an accident, authorities have said.
The other people who were in the house at the time of the fire were identified Tuesday as Jacqueline Moya, 47, who is Cotto-Moya’s mother; Kaitlyn Robles, 20, Cotto-Moya’s fiancee; and the 2-year-old daughter of Cotto-Moya and Robles. All were in stable condition at hospitals Tuesday, police said.
