The city has reached a settlement agreement with a veteran firefighter with multiple pending court cases against it. The city council earlier this week approved paying Deputy Chief of Training Dan Nolan up to $423,000 over a 30 year period to settle two lawsuits, and several other labor complaints. Annual payments of $14,100 will be made for 30 years or until Nolan dies, which ever comes first. The payments will not be extended to any survivors. City Council President Thomas "TJ" Clarke II, was among six council members to vote for the settlement earlier this week. One council member abstained and two others were not present for the vote. "This saves the city some money," Clarke said. Nolan, who has been with the department for 34 years and is currently on paid administrative leave, declined to comment.
