Michael W. Goodman was sworn in to a two-year term as chief of Derby’s volunteer fire department this week.
Goodman’s appointment was one of five made in the city’s fire department at the Hotchkiss Hose Company on David Humphreys Road. It included the first departmentwide chaplain.
Robert J. Laskowski Jr., of East End Hose was appointed first assistant chief; David M. Lenart of Storm Engine Company and a former alderman became second assistant chief and Michael F. Gloade of Hotchkiss Hose became third assistant chief.
Meanwhile the Rev. Christopher Tiano, pastor of St. Mary's Church and also St. Jude's Church was sworn in by Mayor Anita Dugatto as the department-wide chaplain.
Tiano, a Derby native comes from a firefighting family. His brother is a former member of Hotchkiss Hose Co. 1, his uncle was a captain of Paugassett Hook and Ladder Co. 4 and his father served as an assistant chief from Paugassett Hook and Ladder.
