Fire Chief Gary Brunoli has proposed changing the requirements for bringing in new members to the department. Candidates interested in joining the Torrington Fire Department are now required to have Connecticut Certified Firefighter II and CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Training) certification. Brunoli and other members of the department administration want to require Certified Firefighter I status, CPAT, and EMT certification instead. Applicants would be sent to a training program at the Connecticut Fire Academy, with the hope of expanding the pool of potential hires. The proposal was sent to the Board of Public Safety ahead of its Jan. 4 meeting.
