Longmont firefighters started the new year with a tough rescue job on Tuesday. Firefighters went to the area near the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Airport Road at about 9:30 a.m. to rescue Lily the cat, who had gotten stuck 45 feet up a tree several days prior, according to Longmont fire spokeswoman Molly Cropp. The cat had recently been given to a new owner and seemed to run away in fear of the new situation, Cropp said. She "didn't budge" from her spot in the tree for three days. While the fire department usually doesn't rescue cats, Cropp said they decided to go get Lily due to the freezing temperatures and how long she had been stuck in the tree.
