VIDEO: The City of Grand Junction is working to put a public safety tax on your April ballot. The proposed sales tax increase would increase the number of both police officers and firefighters on the streets, but as Grand Junction adds first responders, they need to add dispatchers too. "As our user agencies add additional officers or deputies, the need for dispatchers is evident as well,” Sarah Arrants, administrative supervisor for the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center, said. The communication center is hiring seven dispatchers right now -- that’s before the possible public safety tax increase, which budgets eight more.
