The Loveland Fire Rescue Authority on Wednesday honored three local people for above-and-beyond acts of courage and compassion due to their actions in two emergency situations this year. Fire Chief Mark Miller awarded Debbie Fredrickson the Fire Chief's Distinguished Merit Award for her help putting out a fire that was eating its way through the wall of her neighbor's house. Fredrickson was walking her dogs, red heeler Lucy and Australian lab Chuy, one morning on Knobcone Drive when she noticed a planter on fire at a neighbor's house, burning hot enough that it had already broken the glass of a window. Fredrickson spotted a garden hose nearby and put the fire out — all while holding her dogs' leashes.
