A local woman is facing charges after fire crews rescued her from her burning home. On Dec. 30, Grand Junction fire crews were called to an apartment triplex in the 1600 block of Main Street. Police were called to help. According to a police affidavit, a neighbor told police he saw Kathleen Brechtel, 66, yelling at a fire in her apartment. When crews went in to rescue her, she was kneeling behind a couch with a tissue and lit cigarette, and she refused to come out. Fire investigators said it appeared the woman used the cigarette and tissue to start the fire, according to a police affidavit.
