A doctor at Memorial Hospital of Converse County died in a climbing accident in Colorado over Labor Day weekend, the hospital announced Tuesday. Dr. Jamie Rupp died after slipping and falling Sunday while climbing Challenger Point, a 14,000-foot peak in the Sangre de Cristo Range southwest of Pueblo, Colorado, the Saguache County coroner said Tuesday. Rupp tumbled approximately 1,000 feet down a gully covered with loose shale, the coroner Tom Perrin said. He was climbing alone, but the route was busy and at least three people saw him slip and fall, Perrin said. Rupp’s wife, Sandy, received notification Monday from the Saguache County coroner that her husband had died, according to the announcement from the Douglas hospital.
