Firefighters working to extinguish a blaze that destroyed two sheds behind an Encanto home narrowly missed being hit by one of the outbuildings when it collapsed Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The blaze erupted for unknown reasons about 11:50 a.m. at a property on Stamen Street near the south end of Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, and more than two dozen firefighters from San Diego and National City responded to help battle the flames, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue spokeswoman and an on-scene battalion chief. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which broke out behind a property with two residences, SDFD Battalion Chief Jeff Mitchell told OnScene TV.
