Staffing at the Redding Fire Department was one of the main issues discussed Tuesday night at a Carr Fire Town Hall meeting.
William "Shorty" Bryson, a national expert on fire department staffing and safety, said he's been studying the Redding Fire Department for more than a year.
Bryson gained expertise in fire staffing after spending ten years as the National Standards Committee Chair, studying staffing issues in different areas.
He said a lack of funding has prevented the Redding Fire Department from hiring enough employees to meet their needs.
To address this concern, we asked city officials what they plan to do about the problem.
"It's really tough for our guys to get work done with only two people," said Redding Fire Chief Cullen Kreider
Chief Kreider with the Redding Fire Department said staffing has always been a problem.
