One killed, four injured when ambulance with patient inside overturns in San Lorenzo crash

A 74-year-old woman being rushed to a hospital died Monday morning after her ambulance was broadsided by a car and flipped over, authorities said. She was identified as Catherine Sunday of San Leandro. The driver of the car suffered major injuries and three others in the Paramedics Plus ambulance, including a paramedic apparently giving the woman CPR before the crash, were also hurt. All five were take to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. The collision occurred about 11:13 a.m. at the intersection of Hesperian and Lewling boulevards. The ambulance was heading south on Hesperian when it was reportedly broadsided by a white Audi traveling east on Lewelling. The ambulance had its emergency lights and sirens on, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ron Jacowitz. Authorities did not say where Sunday was picked up or to what hospital she was being taken at the time of the collision.
