In 1916, the Hermosa Beach fire department was staffed with only volunteers. More than 100 years later, the department made one of its biggest transitions in its history when Los Angeles County Fire officially took over last weekend.
“We are confident that our residents and business owners will receive protection and service from county fire that is proven to be among the best and most cost effective in the world,” said Mayor Jeff Duclos at a ceremony at the Hermosa Beach Community Theatre on Dec. 29.
Fire Chief Daryl Osby of the Los Angeles County Fire Department welcomed Hermosa Beach fire. He said the history and service will be replicated, and probably exceeded, by the county.
“I know there have been some tough times here, and anytime there's change in any situation, it's going to be questioned,” Osby said.
