A Port Hueneme man faces assault and child endangerment charges after being accused of assaulting an Oxnard fire captain as firefighters tried helping the man recover his pet bird that had escaped. The incident occurred on Feb. 4 shortly after 4 p.m. in the 100 block of Seaview Street in Port Hueneme. Port Hueneme police say 38-year-old Tony Hall became belligerent after his pet bird flew from the tree it was perched on to the roof of the apartment complex as firefighters were setting up a ladder to help retrieve the bird.
