Whetstone firefighters responded to a fire Tuesday evening at Huachuca United Methodist Church, the second in six weeks at that location. “The call came in around 4:48 Tuesday, and the fire was contained to the area of origin,” said Whetstone Fire Chief Pete Bidon. “This fire is under investigation because it’s suspicious in nature.” The church, located at 506 N. Gila Ave., in Huachuca City, was destroyed in a massive fire the evening of Oct. 18, and had been fenced off by the demo and cleanup crew. When Whetstone Fire and Huachuca City Police arrived on scene Tuesday, Bidon said the vehicle gate to the fence was open. Tom Mangan, a special agent with the ATF, said the bureau is working jointly with Huachuca City Police in the arson investigation.
