White Mountain Lake Fire District (WMLFD) administrator, John Flynn, and the Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District (TMFMD) Board met in a joint session Oct. 30 to finalize consolidation between the two fire districts. The decision came after months of work, several public meetings, including three public hearings where members of the public were invited to speak, a feasibility study completed for each organization including a detailed financial analysis, etc. The process also included a vote by the Town Council of Pinetop-Lakeside, the City of Show Low Council and the Navajo County Board of Supervisors; each voted unanimously to endorse the consolidation. For the taxpayers of the Timber Mesa, very little will change. The feasibility study for Timber Mesa shows a very small overall savings which can “only be described as cost neutral.” The other benefits to current TMFMD residents include greater coordination of resources throughout the region.
