The fire at the Lakeside Forest Service campground the occured April 16 and completely destroyed a cabin owned by resident Jim Snitzer was reportedly caused by two boys burning homework. Pinetop-Lakeside Police Sgt. Tom Adduci said a a 10-year-old boy who attends school at Blue Ridge Elementary in Lakeside and a 12-year-old boy who attends Show Low Junior High School have been charged with arson of structure or property, arson of occupied structure and burning of wildlands. Because the suspects are juveniles their names have not been released. No one was in the Snitzer cabin when it burned to the ground sending flames high into the air and causing worry that the surrounding forests would also catch fire.
