The jaws of life can set you free — in most cases, quite literally. Fire science students at Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology were given the opportunity to experience that first hand using extrication tools on April 7 at the Coolidge Fire Department. Extrication is one of the critical procedures that trainees have to be well-versed in to even be considered as a prospective firefighter for any agency, said CAVIT Fire Science Instructor Andrew Hensley. “Actual physical training in extrication is an event that’s like a benchmark,” he said. “It’s an absolute go (or) no-go event.”
