VIDEO: Landscaping materials at a company near Grand and 19th avenues caught fire Monday afternoon, creating flames and a plume of smoke that lasted for several hours and could be seen for miles. At least 50 firefighters were called to battle the second alarm fire. Officials for several hours closed Grand Avenue in both directions at 19th Avenue, Phoenix Fire Department officials said. The road was re-opened at about 8:15 p.m. The initial concern, said Capt. Ardell Deliz with the Phoenix Fire Department, was preventing the flames from reaching nearby houses to the north. However by 5:30 p.m., a perimeter had been established around the fire.
