A German Shepherd named Pierce was at work Thursday morning, helping an area fire department with training in a real fire setting. According to Trumann Fire Chief Revis Kemper, the dog was donated to the department by Blue Streak K-9 earlier this year. The department is one of two departments in the state to use the dogs for that type of work. It typically costs a department between $10,000 and $20,000 for an arson dog, but Kemper said the donation was definitely beneficial to the department. The dog spent Thursday walking through a structure fire in the 600-block of Paschal Street. Kemper said firefighters went to the vacant home around 10 p.m. Wednesday to put out the fire. The fire is still under investigation and Kemper said dogs like Pierce can help with investigations.
