Proposals to expand the Baxter County Detention Facility and collect a municipal sales tax to fund the Mountain Home fire and police departments were both approved by voters on Tuesday. Baxter County voters approved two sales tax proposals, an 8-month, 1 percent sales and use tax to fund the addition of 50 beds to the county jail and a 0.25 percent sales tax to fund the expanded jail’s maintenance and operation. Baxter County residents voted 2,846-1,232 to approve the 1 percent sales tax, which will go into effect on March 1, 2018 and be collected through Oct. 31, 2018.
