Firefighters in Clark County had an unexpected helper while fighting a house fire Tuesday. Arkadelphia Fire Dept. got a call to assist Gum Springs FD in the fully engulfed house fire. "When I got there one of my captains came up to me and told me that we had another guy there helping us," says Lt. Marty Adair, ADF. A firefighter from New York City happened to be passing through on Interstate 30 after taking his son to college in Texas. He saw the fire from the road and pulled off to help. "It's almost bone chilling to know that someone from New York would stop and help the little fire department like Gum Springs and Arkadelphia." Lt. Adair says it's an experience he won't soon forget. "New York is so rich in firefighter history," says Adair. "That's where it all began for the modern firefighter and to have someone there from that department assisting us was pretty cool. Real cool."
