Gadsden firefighters responded at about 10 p.m. Wednesday to a two-alarm fire at Berkeley Apartments on South Fourth Street. Firefighters broke through the door to enter the complex, to search the building. The building was being renovated and was not occupied. They put the fire out within 45 minutes and checked whether it had extended into the attic area. The fire was contained to the second floor.
