Members of the Mobile City Council are taking up at least two big items this morning. One concerns junk vehicles the other may add a dozen firefighters to the department. Both of these items have been held over from a previous week. That means they may be voted on later this morning. The first item concerns "inoperable motor vehicles." This would declare junk cars in public view a public nuisance. It would authorize the city to go through a process to get those vehicles removed. There are a number of exceptions but the primary goal appears to be improving aesthetics. This appears to give neighbors more options when dealing with an eyesore. According to the ordinance, one of the goals is to: Limit the outdoor storage of junked and inoperable motor vehicles for the purpose of promoting and protecting property values and the general appearance of residential neighborhoods and the City as a whole.
