Montgomery Fire/Rescue Chief Miford Jordan will retire next year. Jordan on Wednesday told MFR staff he plans to step down in November 2019. “I have been truly blessed,” Jordan said, according to a MFR Facebook post. “I was just a 23-year-old guy from Lowndes County who needed a job. Montgomery Fire/Rescue has been a huge blessing to me and my family." Jordan joined the fire department in 1985, according to his city biography. He held the position of deputy fire chief for a decade before he was appointed to fire chief in 2006. Jordan is Montgomery's first black fire chief. In November 2014, MFR received an Insurance Service Office's Class 1 rating, the first such rating in the state.
