Authorities continue to investigate the cause of a fire at Bomar Inn on U.S. 31 in Athens. Officers responded Monday morning to multiple reports of smoke coming from one of the rooms at the inn. When they arrived, firefighters told Officer Jason Threet that the fire originated near or on one of the beds. Investigation of the scene by fire department personal and police investigators determined there is a high probability there was an explosion in the room. Evidence gathered will be sent to the lab to determine the substance in the containers and the cause of the fire and explosion. It has been determined that the room was not occupied at the time of the fire.
