Birmingham firefighters are investigating an apartment fire on 19th Street and 11th Avenue. Three people were in their homes at the time of the fire, one person was taken to UAB Hospital for smoke inhalation. Five animals were also rescue. There is damage to a first floor unit. Firefighters say the complex did have working smoke detectors.
