A 65-year-old Florence man is jailed on allegations of trying to burn his friend's house early this morning. Howard Vaughn was staying with his friend at the home near the corner of Beale and North Nance streets, Florence police Sgt. Greg Cobb said. Police were called to the scene around 3:30 a.m. to investigate an unwanted guest. Cobb said they found Vaughn and saw that he had tried to set the house on fire while two people were inside. A witness told officers that Vaughn started fires in several places, according to police.
