Crews worked to put out a fire on the balcony of the new Kress Building apartments in downtown Montgomery Tuesday. According to Sgt. Omari Whiting, around 7:40 a.m. firefighters were called to the 100 block of Dexter Avenue for a fire. When they arrived, there was light smoke visible from the top of the building. Crews were able to evacuate the building and quickly locate the fire on the fourth floor. The fire appears to have originated from a fire pit setting on the balcony of one of the apartments.
