Birmingham firefighters at six fire stations should feel safer soon. Tuesday the Birmingham City Council approved spending over $38,000 to build eight-foot-high fences to protect firemen's vehicles that have been subject of break-ins by crooks. "I can tell you it’s not decorative. There have been several break-ins of vehicles of men and women of the department over the later part of last year. We had multiple break-ins, sometimes at two fire stations at a time," Birmingham Fire Chief Charles Gordon said.
