The City of Opelika is building a new firehall.
The new number one fire department is being built behind city hall in downtown Opelika. It will replace the old station, which is more than 50 years old. Mayor Gary Fuller says the time had come to build a new station, which should be completed by December.
"It will be administration. It will have fire apparatus, fire trucks, paramedics and emergency response teams. I think four or five bays they'll be operating out of.
