Pilots called to report a fire along Wickersham Creek in the White Mountains National Recreation Area on Thursday, according to a news release from the Bureau of Land Management's Alaska Fire Service. Personnel aboard a smokejumper aircraft confirmed the fire as they returned from another mission. Dubbed the Wickersham Dome Fire, the blaze has burned about 10 acres of black spruce and tundra, about three miles southeast of the Borealis LeFevre Public Use Cabin. Alaska Fire Service spokesman Sam Harrel said this is roughly 16 miles northeast of the Wickersham Dome trailhead at 28 Mile Elliott Highway.
