Petersburg Fire Chief Dennis Rubin sharply disputed a story — first reported by NBC Channel 12 on Friday — that he was resigning.
Citing unnamed sources, NBC reported that Rubin, who has been fire chief in Petersburg for almost a year now, was planning on resigning.
Rubin disputed the report, saying it was a “non-story.”
“I do not plan on leaving,” he said. “I couldn’t be working harder. We just had a meeting this morning where we’re working on long-term plans.”
Rubin also questioned the source that NBC cited, saying he would “love to see any documentation.”
“I would’ve thought the people who ‘broke’ the story would have called me,” he said.
Rubin said that NBC did not try to contact him for comment.
Rubin was hired in July of 2017 while the city administration was beginning its shift away from interim management.
