The city fire department Monday denied a petition to posthumously promote a Bronx EMT who was killed in the line of duty in March. An FDNY spokesperson said Yadira Arroyo was not on a civil service promotional list at the time she died, and no other "legal or administrative process" exists for her posthumous promotion. The 44-year-old died March 16 while she responded to a 911 call. Police said Jose Gonzalez, 25, stole Arroyo's ambulance that day and ran her over. He is being charged with murder and robbery. He allegedly took the vehicle to get away from a robbery he had just committed. Arroyo was a 14-year veteran of the FDNY, and had five children. A Brooklyn resident made the request to Mayor Bill de Blasio and Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro to promote Arroyo through the petition website change.org. More than 9,000 people had signed the petition online as of Monday night.
