Fire Prevention Specialist I/II

Fire Prevention Specialist I
Under general direction, completes assignments related to fire prevention and risk and hazard reduction work; performs other related duties as assigned including, but not limited to assisting with life safety, wellness awareness, and outreach programs.

Fire Prevention Specialist II
Working independently but under direction from a Fire Prevention Supervisor, initiates, executes, and completes duties related to fire prevention and risk and hazard reduction work that is of a more technical or complex nature; completes projects and makes presentations related to life safety, wellness awareness, and outreach programs; and performs related work as required.

*The purpose of this recruitment is to establish a one-year eligibility list for filling future vacancies.

ESSAY PROMPT
The Rancho Cucamonga Prevention Bureau is committed to providing a high level of public service and working as a high functioning team. What personal qualities, characteristics, or traits could you bring to the organization to help achieve these objectives?

Candidates that best meet the City of Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District needs will be selected to continue in the recruitment process and will be required to complete responses to additional essay prompts and participate in interviews. 

SELECTION PROCESS:

Phase I             Management Evaluation of Applications and Essay Prompt                      

Phase II             Additional Essay Prompt (tentatively scheduled for October 15, 2018)   

Phase III            Oral Interview (tentatively scheduled for November 7, 2018 or November 8, 2018)                    

Phase IV           Management Evaluation and Selection

Candidates will be scored on each phase of the application process and the top ranking candidates of each phase that best meet the needs of the City of Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District will be invited to continue on to the next step of the recruitment process.

Education and/or Experience:

Fire Prevention Specialist Inspection I
Minimum of one year of experience involving public contact work such as but not limited to inspection or code enforcement, public relations, community affairs, and/or public/community awareness or outreach. Work, training, and/or education involving or related to fire prevention, life safety, and/or risk reduction is preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and/or certification that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of the position.

Fire Prevention Specialist Inspection II
Minimum of three years of experience involving public contact work such as but not limited to inspection or code enforcement, public relations, community affairs, and/or public/community awareness or outreach. Work involving or related to fire prevention, life safety, and/or risk reduction is preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and/or certification that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of the position.
