Location: Port Townsend, WA

Salary:  $120,000 (Depending on Qualifications)

Located at the northeast tip of the scenic Olympic Peninsula in western Washington, Jefferson County FPD No. 1, dba East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR), provides fire and EMS services to 11,706 citizens in a 68-square mile service area on the Quimper Peninsula, and, through an interlocal agreement, the 9,380 residents of the adjacent City of Port Townsend.  Surrounded by miles of saltwater shoreline and with the foothills of the Olympic Mountains just a few miles away, the area draws outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.

The Fire Chief reports to a Joint Oversight Board, consisting of three publicly-elected Fire Commissioners and three Port Townsend City Council Oversight members. Under the general direction of the Oversight Board, the Fire Chief plans, organizes, directs and manages the emergency and non-emergency operations of fire suppression, emergency medical services and fire prevention for the District, including but not limited to volunteer and career personnel management, budget planning and expenditures and tactical duty chief responsibilities during fire and EMS responses.   The Chief coordinates services and operations of the District with other fire districts/departments, Jefferson Healthcare, local organizations, citizens, civic groups and the media.

The new Fire Chief will have an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, Business, or Public Administration, with a BS/BA or MS strongly preferred.  The successful candidate should posses 10 years of fire suppression experience as a career member in an organized fire department; and at least five years (10 years preferred) of experience as a command officer in a comparable or larger organization.  Consideration will be given to any combination of education and experience that would reflect meeting the qualifications
