The Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) is located in Northern Colorado. The PFA was formed in 1981 through the consolidation of the Poudre Valley Fire Protection District and the City of Fort Collins Fire Department. Fort Collins is nationally recognized as one of the best places in the country to live where recreational and cultural opportunities abound. The Authority is a highly energized organization that demands a progressive, visionary leader. The PFA is recognized for innovation throughout the fire service and the Chief must embrace data driven performance management to maintain this reputation. The Authority serves 180,000 citizens, covers 235 square miles, and has an operating budget of $23,760,531. The Chief must possess a high-energy, collaborative approach to managing the organization and recognize that many of the best ideas come from the people who do the work. The Chief should have a presence in fire stations and be a leader on emergency scenes. The Chief should be a visible community leader and sensitive to citizens’ needs. This position is open due to of the retirement of Chief John Mulligan who held the position since the creation of the Authority. A Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field is required. A Master’s degree or completion of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program is preferred. The salary for the Fire Chief is open and is dependent upon qualifications; the PFA offers an attractive benefits package.
