Fire Chief

The City of Austin, Minnesota is seeking a dedicated and innovative individual to lead our combination fire department. Austin is a community of 23,500 and is located on Interstate 90 approximately 90 miles south of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. The department consists of 10 fulltime and 24 paid/on-call fire service personnel and has a current budget of $1,458,766.00.

Successful candidates must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to be innovative and experience working with a combination department are desired. Position requires a minimum five years full or part-time fire service experience and budget administration, personnel administration within a combination department are highly desirable. Salary range: $71,653 – $85,301, dependent upon experience and background.

Minimum requirements include: High school diploma or GED equivalent, Five (5) years of full or part-time fire service experience, or any combination thereof.

Special Requirements include: Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment; Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid state driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state; and no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years.

Candidates will be required to successfully complete the department physical agility testing requirements. The physical agility testing, written test and oral interview will be conducted on Monday, March 8, 2010. Candidates will be notified of specific details following the submission of their complete application.
